Our LEGACY

The Arthur J.E. Child Foundation

TriWest's heritage is deeply intertwined with the Arthur J.E. Child Foundation. Arthur Child was the business partner and co-owner of Burns Foods Group of Companies with TriWest co-founders Ron Jackson and Lorne Jacobson. Upon his passing in 1996, his estate endowed the Foundation.
A Legacy of Excellence
Arthur J.E. Child was a visionary business leader who rose from office clerk at Canada Packers to President and CEO of Burns Foods, leading the largest food conglomerate in Western Canada for nearly three decades. Known for his generosity and willingness to give people the benefit of the doubt, Mr. Child was also a fervent supporter of Western Canada, co-founding the Canada West Foundation and supporting causes in aviation, military history, and health sciences.

His success in business and philanthropy was recognized through his investiture as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1985, as an Honorary Colonel in the Canadian Military, and with honorary doctorates from Queen's University, University of Calgary, and University of Toronto.
Continuing His Mission
Over the past 27 years, the Arthur J.E. Child Foundation has donated nearly $100 million to charitable causes around the world. Most recently, it donated $50 million to establish the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Calgary—a model of excellence integrating research, education, technology, and compassionate care.TriWest co-founders Lorne Jacobson and Ron Jackson, along with David Elton, have served as Trustees since inception, making hundreds of charitable grants that faithfully support Mr. Child's interests and legacy.

Women & Families in Crisis

The Brenda Strafford Centre serves people at risk of family violence by providing a safe housing environment and comprehensive support services so residents can live safely in the community upon departure.
